Middle School Youth

Our Middle School Groups meets during our 11:15am church service.

In middle school, we focus on developing a strong community of care and connection with peers and adult leaders. We provide a spiritually grounding touch point for kids, anchored in relationship, fun, and free exploration.

We alternate our middle school programming yearly in the hopes that all of our middle schoolers have the opportunity to take both Middle School OWL and Crossing Paths. When we are offering OWL, we also offer an alternate middle school group that explores the monthly theme using Soul Matters.

Crossing Paths

In Crossing Paths, we will explore various religious traditions through different lenses. One of those lenses is how each faith defines “the problem in the world” and “the solution” to that problem. For instance, Buddhism sees the problem in the world as suffering and the solution is Nirvana or enlightenment. We UUs have our own unique perspective. Put simply, we have tended to see “separation” as the problem and “connection” as the solution. What grabs our attention and breaks our hearts as UUs is seeing how the world separates or disconnects people from their deepest selves, each other, and life’s gifts. (This group involves field trips)

Middle School Our Whole Lives

OWL is a comprehensive sexuality education program that focuses on the whole person and gives youth tools to navigate the tricky middle and high school years. See more info on our OWL page, or email Kim at lreac@uuasheville for more information.
