Music at UU Asheville

UU Asheville Choir

Lead by Dr. Leslie Downs, the UU Asheville Choir is a talented group of singers who perform a wide variety of choral music in four-part harmony (soprano/alto/tenor/bass). Many are experienced choristers; some are music professionals and some are talented amateurs. All are dedicated music lovers who enjoy working, singing, and socializing together. New members are always welcome! Sight-reading is a plus, but not critical. A pleasant voice, a good ear, and a positive attitude are the primary requirements for membership.

The Choir shares its talents twice a month, during the Traditional Service and at a few special services. Regular rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7:00-8:30 pm from late August until early June. For more information on how to participate contact Dr. Les Downs.

Youth Choir

This choir sings at some of the all-ages services throughout the year. Rehearsals are TBA and will be announced through word of mouth, in the eNews, and on Facebook. No audition is necessary. The music is usually sung in unison, two parts, or as a round. Young people ages 5-18 are welcome to participate.

Participation in the Youth Choir can be for all appearances or for only those services allowed by personal schedules, making this a very flexible way to participate in the UU Asheville Music Program.

Guest Artists

At least twice a month we engage professional musicians to perform in our services. These guest artists provide a wide variety of music, including classical, jazz, pop/folk, musical theater, gospel, and world music. Some of our guest musicians are local artists and some are traveling through to perform at local venues as well as at UU Asheville. Any professional musicians who are interested in performing in our services should contact our Music Director at music@uuasheville.org
