Family Ministry
All families are welcome at UU Asheville! We have thriving programs for all ages, a supportive community, and lots of joy to share.
What to Expect Sunday Morning
Welcome! If you are joining us for the first time, please be sure to check in at the Welcome Table in our lobby and fill out a visitor form.
Every Sunday, our whole community – children, teens, parents, young adults to elders, Faith Formation teachers…everyone! – is together for the beginning of worship in the Sanctuary for an opening, song, and Wisdom Story. We encourage parents to begin bringing children to services at a young age! Children are learning the rhythms, patterns, sights, and sounds of our hymns, traditions, and rituals. Families may enjoy the seating area right up front: large floor pillows create a comfortable space where kids and their parents can really see what’s happening.
After the Wisdom Story, children and teachers are sung out to their classes. Kids, look for your peer group and grade sign to walk to class together.
Parents, stay and visit a bit following the service! Classes go until half past the hour so the adults can connect too. Please pick up your child (5th grade and under) from class or child care by 10:30/12:30 or plan a meeting spot for older kids (6th grade and up).
Childcare is available for very young children (0-5 years old) during the entire worship service. Please sign them in with the child care staff downstairs, either before the worship service or following the Wisdom Story.
All children are welcome to attend worship anytime, with their families. Audio and video from worship is broadcast in Sandburg Hall, across the foyer from the Sanctuary, for anyone more comfortable there.
Several Sundays each year, we have Multigenerational Worship in the Sanctuary with NO FAITH FORMATION CLASSES except nursery and PreK. Check the Faith Formation Calendar for specific dates.
All Ages Worship
Worship is a time when our congregation lifts up that which is of worth. It is a time for the community to live out the principle of supporting each other in the search for meaning that is part of the process of faith development. Welcoming all ages to our services allows us to embrace our children and youth as they participate through ritual, song, movement, and listening in the life of the congregation. There are large pillows on the floor so children can be close to speakers and the choir. Coloring supplies and other tactile materials  (for all ages) are available on the table outside the Sanctuary to support centering and focus during our multigenerational time together.
Summer Sundays
Our Summer Sundays start in June and all children and youth are welcome to join. This includes:
- Welcoming time with rituals, silence, and introduction of the topic
- A guest presenter and activities
- Free play on the playground
We meet from 10:00am-11:15 am, children in 6th grade and up will be dismissed to find their families. All other children should be picked up no later than 11:30 am.
